1.
For my masthead of my magazine I used “Cinema
Gothic BTN Inline” as my choice of font for the initials “G.O.M”. as I choose
my photo first to influence the font and colour as the top has a bright red and
bright blue strips so that’s how I decided to have the masthead bright red, to
follow the colour scheme in the image as it would make the colours stand out I
used black as an background colour to make the red, blue and white pop out more.
I thought theses colours link to my genre of my magazine as pop is quite a
bright industry. I took this idea from other magazines such as ‘Q’ and “VIBE”
for example I could compare there masthead
always stands out and how there writing standouts and from the background which
would suit my target audience and apply to them.
The masthead for “Q” is also used the red and
black theme but is a bit different to mine as its used white in there masthead,
mine challenges conventions of other
magazines as mine only goes 2/3 across
my page.
The
masthead for ‘vibe’ changes with each addition
but this addition I like more than most as I like the way everything’s
linked and that’s how iv done mine in that’s style.
“NME” I got my idea of using initials from this
magazine as I think its more of an interesting why of developing the masthead,
I tried to put mine in the middle, in the centre but it didn’t like as
effective as being on the left hand side.
I think my images have the normal
conventions of magazines as my image is a medium- to close up and I did verusl settings for my images as
most was in the studio on a black screen with the studio lights but I wanted to
see what the out side outs would turn out like but before hand we sat down and
planned what I wanted them to wear and how I wanted there hair and make-up, I
decided on a kind of sexy geek theme. Me and my friends took a whole day
getting these photos right , making share the images would have directed
address this portrayed them as eye changing, them looking into the camera and
making share the lighting hit them in the right places. I worked hard to make sure my photos because
they reflect the essence of POP.
The people that helped me with my photos
for my magazine are my friends Zara & Charlotte , there 16/17 which would
apply to my target audience as here not going to look at a 40 year old band
member as in the pop world there very far between. I used this young cutie girl
theme as most girl bands have a bright and colourful image, bands such a
‘little mix’ or the ‘Saturdays’ and that’s how I decided on a theme. I didn’t
decide to have a contrast of female and male band members as that’s very 90’s
and not that much seen in todays pop band industry. My magazine was slightly
bias towards females as iv got fashion advice, gossip and plus a compation plus
a girl band interview which is a very classic female based magazine.

Title font and style,
I created the masthead ‘G.O.M’ by using a
fading tool of fireworks and gives it more of a dark shadow on to it to really
make the red
Pop out and the focal point because the
font “Cinema Gothic BTN Inline” e.g g.o.m I needed
to make the red less bold. I keep it in a straight line as I wanted my
headlines to be straight as well so it makes it more visually easier to read,
which teenagers are not going to be drawn to magazine were it has not got short
easy to read info. In addition to this, all the magazines I looked at , at the
start of the project they all used the similar ways of presenting there
masthead . I analysed all of them and that’s how I came to the dission about my
masthead for my magazine.
Written content
The written side to my magazine follows the
normal conventions of a real music magazine as I took a great deal of time
reading throw magazines to see how they write and what about, by using similar
topics and themes. For a start I would using an artists/band members as my
first topic and say there interview and how the became to be a band and how it
all started and plans for the furture and as it’s a music magazine offer a
compertison for ticks for a well known artist and offer gossip and fashion
tips and the latest top downloads
furthermore the itinery you would find
it most music magazines. The contect page has the same feaures but has a more
fimariler mode of address to the audience showing them more about the magazine
and how to find what and were.
Music genre & how I present it
The main genre of my magazine is POP in
some R&B influences to add into it, this is quite clear through my magazine
as iv used pop artists in my work and used a topical pop girl band theme for
example iv used the querky funny bright colourful theme that pop is asosheainted
with and this is proven in my front cover and contents page . Real music
magazine sugguest their genre throw the mis-en-sence of their images and the
artists and bands included so therefore my magazine fits the normal codes and
conventions of the music magazine world.
Layout
The layout is mainly conventional as this
on the double page spread as in the interview in the way there is a side of
columns on the right had side with a standerned title on top. In addition to this , the photod are
all arranged to suit every indervial
page as the front cover needed an image with directed address , her looking
like shes listening to the music in the image, contects is slighty more
releaxed as the piamge don’t need to be as eye catching but atill have a good
effect on the reader, double page spread needs a querky fun themed photo as the
band as its about them and you want to
pertray them as funny loving girls as that’s how the interviewer says
they are. My front cover fllows the layout of conventions by having at masthead
at the top of the page and the sellines at the sides of the page. My barcode is
at the bottom right hand side.
Contents pages
My contents page contains the normal things
you would see in a topical music magazine, for example in to the a skyline and the masthead at the top and the
image of the left hand side. At the start of the project I analysed the
contents pages of magazines closely and the layout of my content is not as
regimented and normal strucker as ‘Q’ magazine and I tthink that the way I have
arranged the photo and the skyline, masthead and sellines are very easy and
clear to see be still have quicky fonts that would appeal to my teenage
audience as it’s a quick simiple way to get the info you need.
QUESTION 2
The way my photos present Particular Social Groups is by the
clothing, the quite offive worker clothings but with a youthful twist, the 80’s
style glasses but resently the geek look came into fasion and girl brands such
as little mix have took the identity and there a pop group . For example if I
was doing at girl rock band I would have used dark settings , rock star
clothings and not edited the photo to as bright and colourful as it is so
therefore I do think my magazine presents a particlair social group because its
suited to there style and looks.
Question 3
I think that the media institution IPC MEDIA would
best best to distribute my magazine as it already distributes for weel known
magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘NME’ , other genre of music magazines such as
‘kerrang’ . With that experience and well known successes they would the right
way to get my magazine to the right people, my audience and consumers who might
be interested in a new music magazine.
There another
institution to consider BAUER MEDIA because it has over 80 media brands and
reaches and estermated 19 million people and over but as they already have
successful music magazines in my genre so there fore it would but unlikey they
would distribute a rivel to an existing magazine.
The target audience for my music magazine is
16+, like college students and uny but also it has a friendly of written so the
family and younger people can read it to
These two girls would farther sit and chat, talk about the
latest styles/gossip and song than get on with their art, media and photography
work, the songs they listen to bye certain artists, well known artists and
every time there favour music artist came to England they would try there buy
to get tickets for them, most of their money was spend on iTunes and latest
fashion and the odd concert now and then. They shop on the high street and have
un-designer brands but every time theres a new pop fasion fas they have to buy
it but they always have the faviour pair
of jeans and top.
QUESTION 5
Most pop music magazines are more female attracting than
male as its more of a girly genre, they do mainly female features like girl
band, top of the charts , fasion, interviews and gossip and that’s not excluely
aimed at men unless a man is attracked to that kind of layout, like ‘NME’ my
magazine masthead is simple but has a bright red colour to it giving it the pop
of colour you see in a pop magazine.
QUESTION 6
I used my college dell computers to create my magazine on ,
I did it mainly at college but I used my ipad at home to complete work.
I also used this memory stick to transfer my work from the
computers at college to whatever thing I was going to use at home.
.
I used publisher for my preliminary task.
In addition to this I created a blog account using “Blogger”
to post all of my research and planning activities as well as my final magazine
and evaluation.
QUESTION 7
Since creating my college magazine I didn’t know how to used
fireworks but know I know how to use all the icons and no exactly how do stuff to . For example I now know how much my
text stand out more and how to layer my page so there’s things not overlapping
each other to make elements of my
magazine stand out more and iv also
learnt more about blogger and ipiccy as at the start I didn’t really not much they
work, ipiccy I now understand how to edit my photos properly and know how to make my photos less exposed to
light and the effects I can add to photos such as to make it black and white, on my college magazine I didn’t edit
my photo’s I think iv got a greater understanding of everything now.
